Financial & Work-Study Peer

Under the direct supervision of the Fiscal Analyst in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Financial and Work-Study Peer works as a member of the Fiscal Operations Unit. They assist with data entry and organization of Work-study referrals as well as sending Work-study e-mails to Departments on campus and, when necessary, providing customer service to both students and departments. They help open, organize, and distribute office mail. Following UC cash handling procedures, they process external agency scholarships received in the mail or turned in by students. Other miscellaneous office/financial duties and projects as assigned. 

Hours may vary from approximately 8-20 hours per week depending on workload and student’s class, midterm and finals schedule.

Qualifications:

The candidate should possess the following skills: 

General Office Competencies:

  • Proficient in phone & email etiquette
  • Fluent in MS Office Suite; in particular, Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Data entry
  • Financial analysis
  • Ability to accurately take phone messages and return phone calls
  • Efficient in filing and organizing files 

Special Projects:

  • Organization of files
  • Creation of database & tracking spreadsheets 

FOU Financial Assistant Peer must be able to:

  • Maintain a good working knowledge of outside scholarship procedures

  • Work independently with critical deadlines and confidential information

  • Serve as a resource to the OFAS staff, outside scholarship agencies, and students

  • Understand and apply all FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) policy and procedures 

Other Competencies:

  • Ability to follow UC cash handling procedures
  • General financial experience
  • Excellent customer service skills and an ability to communicate effectively in sensitive and confidential situations
  • Analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to understand and apply federal, state, and university regulations, policies and procedures
