KCSB-FM Production Coordinator

KCSB-FM's Production Coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining the station’s public service announcements. S/he works closely with the Promotions Director to ensure PSAs are made for upcoming “KCSB Presents…” and local events. S/he also conducts regular production and live music mixing trainings for programmers. Much of the work for this position is done using Audacity and DadPro software.

Partial List of Duties/Regular Tasks

  • Production of FCC-compliant PSAs and ensuring proper training of PSA production for volunteers

  • Weekly PSA scheduling on FM program logs

  • DADPro Library maintenance

  • Engineering/mixing of live music broadcasts

  • Leading and coordinating volunteers via PSA Subcommittee

Suggested Qualifications:

Should have an understanding of the radio station, our media ethics, its operations, its policies, and its bylaws. Strong leadership skills, ability to prioritize tasks, complete projects on time, and meet deadlines strongly recommended.

Overarching Executive Committee responsibilities:

  • Must be present in Santa Barbara for at least half of Winter break (depending on job position).

  • Expected to attend all KCSB events.

  • Must attend weekly Executive Committee meetings.

  • Must maintain a program on FM during employment (and not bitch about it).

  • Must lead and conduct a volunteer subcommittee for your department.

  • Job goes until June 2018

Shall work with the Engineer and the Assistant Program Director to become proficient in the use of production equipment and digital production and editing systems.

Shall supervise and train Staff in the use of production facilities to facilitate the creation of pre-produced content.

In cooperation with the Assistant Program Director shall train programmers in the use of production facilities.

Shall work closely with the Promotions Coordinator to ensure that public service announcements, station promotions, introductions, etc. are produced, consistent with the station's mission.

Shall review all produced Public Service Announcements (PSAs) for technical quality and content.

Shall facilitate trainings on the use of sound-editing tools and assist staff members with individual production problems.

Shall monitor and keep a record of staff who have completed the quarterly PSA and show promo requirement and provide this information to the Program Director.

Shall create a catalogue on DADpro of pre-recorded programs that can be aired in an emergency.

Shall work closely with Assistant Engineer in facilitating Studio A trainings for live performance/panels set-up and mixing.

Shall work with Digital Media Coordinator in managing creation and posting of video/audio content for KCSB’s social media outlets (in-studio performances on Youtube)

Shall train students in the skills required to be Production Manager.

Shall attend all Executive Committee meetings and make sure that the Executive Committee is aware of all pertinent station matters related to production.

Shall assist other members of the Executive Committee and KCSB staff in their respective duties to advance the functions and goals of the entire station.
