KCSB-FM Associate News Director
In collaboration with the News and Public Affairs Director and the co-Associate News Director, the Associate News Director is responsible for producing the daily KCSB newscast. This includes researching, coordinating and writing news stories, and producing stories and periodic special broadcasts on topics that have been lacking in coverage locally or at KCSB. KCSB-FM’s News Department is also responsible for coverage of elections at the national, state, local and University levels. Other duties involve training and managing news interns and volunteer reporters as well as coordinating outreach to the community. Areas of coverage will be prioritized on a quarterly basis by the News Department.
Partial List of Duties/Regular Tasks:
Training reporters
Identifying, assigning and tracking current events and local stories, including at the University and in Isla Vista
Produce 4 newscasts per week
Produce at least 3 stories per week
Daily upkeep of social media (Twitter, Soundcloud, Facebook, kcsb.org)
Hosting weekly reporter meetings and maintaining consistent follow-up with reporters.
Co-coordinates at least one news-related event per quarter
Remains on-call and available for coverage of local emergencies/breaking news.
Suggested Qualifications:
Should have an understanding of the radio station, our media ethics, its operations, its policies, and its bylaws. Strong leadership skills, ability to prioritize tasks, complete projects on time, and meet deadlines strongly recommended.
Overarching Executive Committee responsibilities:
Must be present in Santa Barbara for at least half of Winter break (depending on job position).
Expected to attend all KCSB events.
Must attend weekly Executive Committee meetings.
Must maintain a program on FM during employment.
Must lead and conduct a volunteer subcommittee for your department.
Job starts immediately and goes until June 2018.
