Event Planning Internship

Event Planning Internship
California Higher Education Sustainability Conference
10-15 hours a week; $14 an hour
Mid-January through Mid-July
Must be able to increase hours for the period of July 5th-July 12th, 2018 to 8hrs a day
Work-study preferred, but not required

UCSB Sustainability is seeking a current UCSB undergraduate student to assist with the planning and execution of the California Higher Education Sustainability Conference. The Event Planning Intern will staff several speaker selection and best practice review committees including on the topics of waste reduction and recycling, food systems, and sustainable curriculum. The intern will also work with the content development teams to assess audio-visual, rental, and space needs and will streamline those requests for our respective vendors. Throughout the planning of the conference, the intern will look for opportunities to implement sustainable practices that address environmental, social, and economic impacts of the event. This intern will facilitate conversations among key stakeholders on the campus to develop cohesive strategies to execute the various aspects of the event. This will include work with the fire marshal, campus landscaping, transportation and parking services, shipping and receiving and more. Tasks during the conference will include a variety of tasks related to event execution. This could include support at registration, implementation of conference sustainability practices, volunteer management, setting up signs, moving supplies, customer service for attendees, exhibitors, and speakers, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
*Excitement for event planning
*Creativity and ability to think outside of the box when planning events
*Strong verbal and writing skills
*Experience in conflict resolution or customer service
*Organized and able to manage relationships with large numbers of partners during the same time period
*Ability to keep track of a large number of small but competing tasks
*Very detail-oriented and good at tracking progress in real time
*Ability to facilitate teams of people completing tasks as a group
*Interest in sustainability and the mission of CHESC

Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience in event planning and/or management
*Experience directing volunteers
