UCIV Team Leader

Under the supervision of the Isla Vista Community Advisor, the UCIV Team Leaders lead teams of volunteers in Isla Vista as part of A.S. Public Safety Commission’s UCIV volunteer program. The Team Leader ensures all UCIV policies and procedures are followed; assists volunteers in their duties; provides education and training to volunteers; keeps in regular communication with the UCIV Coordinator and reports any key contacts made with residents during shifts. UCIV Team Leaders and volunteers interact with Isla Vista residents and visitors to provide them with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their own and the community’s well-being. They act as mediators to prevent conflict and promote peaceful interactions between public safety officers and Isla Vista residents and visitors to the community. When needed, the volunteers connect people with medical services or other public safety officials.

The UCIV Team Leader must be self-motivated, reliable, able to work independently, and able to work weekend evenings. The ideal candidate should have received training in some or all of the following areas: Safe Space, CARE (Camps Advocacy, Resources & Education), Alcohol and Other Drugs Certification, CPR Certification, LRC Know Your Rights, Undocumented Student Services Training. In addition, the Team Leader must have excellent oral and written communication skills and bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency is preferred. This position requires someone who has experience and enjoys working with a diverse community in a student-driven environment. The UCIV Team Leader should be familiar with Isla Vista and area resources. Must remain nonjudgmental and help to promote culture change in Isla Vista through peer-to-peer accountability.
