Serve as a frontline coordinator for UC Santa Barbara social media channels
(Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) in the Office of Public Affairs &
Communications. Coordinator will be responsible for planning and publishing
positive and engaging content targeted to prospective students, current
students, alumni, and the campus community at large.
In consultation with the office’s production team, coordinator will generate
ideas for content, plan posts via content calendar, seek or develop supporting media,
then draft and publish posts. Content will be aimed at celebrating campus
achievements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity, work well with
cross-functional teams, exhibit a knack for research, possess a strong Gaucho
spirit, and be available to occasionally post breaking news or updates during
nonstandard business hours. Excellent written and verbal communications skills
required. Accuracy, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and ability
to multi-task are also critical for success. Prior experience managing
organizational social media accounts is preferred. Graphic design skills a plus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF
THE JOB
Monitor, manage and
maintain active profiles on a variety of social media platforms including
Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Support campus
reputation by deploying positive messaging in a consistent and engaging
fashion.
Manage social media
audiences and strategies; recommend and implement initiatives to engage
participants in these web platforms.
Respond to inquiries
received via social media channels.
Using available UCSB
media outlets, research information relevant to audiences; synthesize this into
actionable, engaging content for posting.
Develop and maintain
working relationships with internal and cross-campus staff to identify and
amplify stories that deliver on content strategy.
Write and edit
social posts; publish via HootSuite.
Regularly monitor social media tools, trends and applications so findings can be appropriately applied with regard to UCSB’s social media presence (macro-trends in social media and micro-trends in higher education).
Monitor engagement in social media channels and continually optimize approach based on learnings.
Depending on
experience, design unique visual content in support of key messages.
$10.50 per hour. We are flexible with a schedule of up to 16 work hours per week
around your academics. Work must be performed on-site at the Office of Public Affairs
& Communications in Cheadle or Phelps Hall.
