Position Information
Administrative/Office
Join the stewardship team of Isla Vista’s open-spaces and parks! In addition to fiscal duties, the Clerical Assistant greets visitors and volunteers, answers phones, and relays information related to Isla Vista Recreation and Park District’s (IVRPD) facilities, programs and services.
Under the Supervision of the Fiscal Officer and Executive Assistant, the Clerical Assistant will learn generally accepted accounting principles as outlined by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Duties include but are not limited to bookkeeping, online purchasing, compiling reports, filing, accepting payments for park and garden rentals, and performing other related duties as assigned.
IVRPD provides a flexible work schedule but requires a minimum of 10 hrs. per week in 2-4 hr. blocks (most Friday afternoons are required). You must be reliable, detail oriented, comfortable working with numbers, and eager to learn. This job involves personal interaction with park-users, so the successful candidate will have a pleasant and outgoing demeanor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma
Training & Experience: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to perform data-entry is required. Familiarity with Quick Books or similar accounting software, and customer service experience is highly preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, be punctual, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs is required and experience using office equipment (computers, copiers etc.) is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, make visual observations, operate standard office equipment, and to reach and lift with hands and arms above and below shoulder level. The employee must be able stoop, kneel to lift and carry, push or pull materials occasionally weighing up to 50 pounds.

The employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills, read and interpret data and situations, use math and mathematical reasoning, work with constant interruptions and meet deadlines. The position requires polite professional interaction with the public, volunteers, local officials, staff and management. The employee works in both office and field settings, and occasional foot travel is required to different locations on the UCSB campus, Isla Vista and surrounding areas.
