UCSB Office of Development Student Assistant - Development Research Unit

The Prospect Research Unit, within the Office of Development, is currently looking for a student
assistant/prospect research student for Central Research. We are located in Phelps Hall on campus.

This position requires an individual who is highly detail oriented with an ability to prioritize work and perform multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.  Good problem-solving and analytical skills as well as excellent spelling and grammar skills required.

The Research staff has a high regard for the nature of the information it gathers and respects the confidentiality and privacy of its donors and prospects. This prospect data is stored in a central database, Advance.

All students will be thoroughly trained.  Student assistants will work 10-20 hours per week.    Work schedules are flexible with any school schedules or designated University “breaks”, and are adjusted each quarter.

General Duties

Computer Research:
  • Perform research using Internet databases, plus Development’s custom database Advance
  • Research corporations, foundations, and individuals
  • Assisting research staff on a variety of research and data projects
Prospect Tracking Support:
  • Update and maintenance of Advance database
  • Attention to detail and data integrity
Administrative Support:
  • Filing and maintenance of office files
  • Assisting with mailings including:
    • Creation of materials such as letters or invitations
    • Monitoring responses to mailing
  • Handling returned mail including updates to Advance
Computer Skills:
Student assistants will need to have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe
Acrobat, Google, Internet Explorer (or other browser), and basic email applications within a PC
environment. Additionally, student assistants must have an aptitude for furthering their computer
knowledge, as training will be provided on other specific-use software and databases.

Starting Pay is $11.00/hr.
