Alternative Transportation Coordinator

Hours Per Week: 10-15 Hrs.
Wage: $14/hr.
Preferred start date: Immediate
Commitment: Spring 2018 Only

Program:

The UC Carbon Neutrality Initiative at UCSB launched an effort this year to expand the number of staff and faculty traveling to UCSB via alternative means (vanpool, carpool, bike, etc.) We are seeking an undergraduate student to assist us in Spring quarter with outreach to staff and faculty. For the month of May, most of the efforts will be centered around CycleMAYnia. We are planning a series of events like a bike to work breakfast, electric bike test drive event, BBQ for bike commuters, and bike tours. The intern will also assist with increasing participation in the campus vanpool program and supporting other alternative transportation programs for UCSB.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Event logistics to bike to school/work events;
  • Encourage staff, faculty, and graduate students to form bike to work teams for CycleMAYnia;
  • Promotion and marketing of events and services supporting alternative transportation;
  • Collaborate with transportation and parking services and the UCSB Sustainable Transportation team on alternative transportation programs;
  • Promote vanpool options for commuting to UCSB.

Eligibility Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Independent thinker capable of collaborating to design and implement programs and practices;
  • Diplomatic;
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to develop relationships with diverse stakeholders;
  • Good with professional communication;
  • Experience with community building;
  • Comfortable with public outreach (past experience in sales, door to door campaigns, etc can offer good transferable skills here)
  • Strong writing and editing skills;
  • Good note-taking skills; and
  • Must be a UCSB student.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Excitement for bicycling as a form of commuting;
  • Commitment to alternative transportation; and
  • Experience with outreach or marketing efforts.
