Director of Public Relations - Student Philanthropy

UCSB First Mission
The UCSB First mission is to foster a campus-wide culture of philanthropy. Our goal is to raise awareness with UCSB students about the importance of private giving, which makes our outstanding educational experience possible. We strive to inspire students to get involved with philanthropy now because collectively, we can make a difference.

Overview of Role:
The Public Relations Director supports the Co-Chairs by managing UCSB First’s public image through coordinating with university and local press, managing UCSB First’s own media presence, and ensuring a consistent and positive image on campus. The PR Director role leads the the marketing team by providing direction and guidance to the subcommittee members, which includes the Head of Social Media and Head of the UCSB First Blog. This role works closely with the Creative Director to ensure brand and mission consistency. 
This role will work 10 hrs/wk, $11/hr.

  4. Self-motivated with excellent time management skills   
  5. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and lead a team of peers
  6. Superb managerial skills and ability to delegate tasks in a timely manner

Responsibilities:
  • Professionally represent the Office of Development and UCSB
  • Be seen as an ambassador of a culture of giving with UCSB students
  • Actively educate committee members about the importance of philanthropy and the mission & goals of UCSB First
  • Facilitate press coverage of UCSB First events and initiatives
  • Maintain consistent messaging for UCSB First’s marketing outputs 
  • Lead a sub-group of the UCSB First Committee, comprised of Head of Social Media and Head of UCSB First Blog
  • Facilitate weekly meetings with your team and the Co-Chairs to discuss ongoing campus and UCSB First events
  • Ensure that your team is prepared for the bi-weekly UCSB First committee meetings by following through on attendance, participation, and readiness
  • Communicate frequently with Co-Chairs to ensure alignment and support with overall plan
