KCSB-FM Music Director
The Internal and External Music Directors (MDs) are responsible for maintaining KCSB’s music library and ensuring it is constantly stocked with new music that aligns with our mission statement. The MDs review the music that is sent to the station and are responsible for corresponding with music industry representatives, labels, and artists to solicit music for the station, and to track the music that has been sent.
Note: The Internal Music Director is a member of KCSB's Program Mediation and Review Committee (PMRC).
Partial List of Duties/Regular Tasks
- Schedule and faithfully keep office hours.
- Maintain ongoing contact with labels, artists and promoters, and maintain charts of new release airplay
- Receive and sort music submissions and all other mail on a daily basis.
- Maintain music library, review and label new music and add it to the music library
- Develop strategies with Music Librarian and others to keep a usable and sustainable collection of physical and digital media
- Co-lead KCSB's Music Department Subcommittee
Suggested Qualifications:
Should have an understanding of the radio station, our media ethics, its operations, its policies, and its bylaws. Strong leadership skills, ability to prioritize tasks, complete projects on time, and meet deadlines strongly recommended.
Overarching Executive Committee responsibilities:
- Must be present in Santa Barbara for at least half of Summer and half of Winter break (depending on the job position).
- Expected to attend all KCSB events.
- Must attend weekly Executive Committee meetings.
- Must maintain a program on FM during employment.
- Must lead and conduct a volunteer subcommittee for your department.
