KCSB-FM Program Director

The Program Director is responsible for creating the KCSB’s quarterly program schedule and ensuring program quality with the help of the Program Mediation and Review Committee (PMRC). The Program Director convenes and leads this PMRC committee, reviews KCSB Programs, handles show substitutions, and notifies the GM of programmer violations when they occur.

S/he is also on call 24/7 to fill in for programmers in the event they do not arrive to host their show (at times with the support of the General Manager, Assistant Program Director, and select career staff).

NOTE: The KCSB Program Director will join the hiring committee to interview all other candidates for KCSB's Executive Committee immediately upon notification of appointment.

Partial List of Duties/Regular Tasks

• Chairs Program Mediation and Review Committee, which sets schedule and maintains programming quality through regular reviews of news and existing shows
• Directs written communication with volunteer programmers via regular reviews and other correspondences
• Advises and assists General Manager in overall station operatinos
• Help devise plan for areas that need outreach
• Help Promotions Director navigate schedule as we devise and implement promotions and outreach plan (e.g., so that giveaways are program appropriate)
• Help Development Coordinator with various Fund Drive duties (after scheduling completed)
• Consult with Publications Director during production of KCSB Schedule as needed.

Suggested Qualifications:

Should have an understanding of the radio station, our media ethics, its operations, its policies, and its bylaws. Strong leadership skills, ability to prioritize tasks, complete projects on time, and meet deadlines strongly recommended.

Overarching Executive Committee responsibilities:

  • Must be present in Santa Barbara for at least half of Summer and half of Winter break (depending on the job position).
  • Expected to attend all KCSB events.
  • Must attend weekly Executive Committee meetings.
  • Must maintain a program on FM during employment.
  • Must lead and conduct a volunteer subcommittee for your department.
  • Job goes until June 2019
