Academic Skills Tutors at CLAS conduct workshops and individual consultations about how to study at UCSB.  Drawing on their own experiences as students and on in-house CLAS training, skills tutors help their fellow students to think about how they might change daily habits or mental patterns so that they might be more capable of achieving thie academic goals at the University.  Workshop titles include: Lecture Stratedies, Reading Comprehension, Reading Efficiency, Writing papers, Multiple Choice Tests, Essay Exams, Confidence, Motivation, Focus, Time Management, Making a Study Plan, and Fighting Procrastination.

This is an excellent opportunity for any UCSB student who believes that they will one day be teaching professionally or for anyone who is interested generally in educational psychology.

All training and preparation for workshops will be paid at the rate of $15.72/hour.  All workshop sessions will be paid at the rate of $21.24/hour.

Minimum requirements for this tutoring job are

  • Junior or senior standing;
  • Strong academic performance;
  • An overall GPA of 3.0;
  • Interest in teaching;
  • Availability to attend the first training before Week 1 of fall quarter.
