Experience with children a must. Must be available to work the after school program hours from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Supervise an afternoon drop-in recreation program for “at risk” youth at Children’s Park in Isla Vista. Using equipment provided, provide recreational experiences that promote physical, mental and social development and maintain a safe and enjoyable environment by ensuring that participants comply with the rules: set out toys, check out balls & games to children, lead playground games, educational activities, and arts & craft projects. Take attendance and distribute snacks to children. Clean play area by picking up trash and sweeping patio when necessary. Keep toys, supplies and equipment neatly organized in storage closets. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Fingerprinting and TB clearance required as a condition of employment.
Past employment working with children in a similar afterschool program or a summer day camp desired.
First Aid and CPR certification desired but not required.
Applicant must be able to maintain a safe environment by identifying and eliminating safety hazards. Follow written procedures. Be a positive role model. Supervise and interact positively with children. Manage groups of 10 to 20 children without assistance. Set up and supervise several activities at the same time. Plan & lead playground games, educational activities, and arts & craft projects. Manage ball & game check out program. Keep supplies and equipment in closets neatly organized. Address and resolve behavior problems in a positive manner. Register and supervise volunteers. Take attendance. Present a positive image of The District to the public.
Must be available to work from 3PM until 6PM two or three weekday afternoons each week.
