Graduate Communication Peer 2024-25
The UCSB Graduate Division is currently accepting applications for a Graduate Communication Peer position, to begin employment in September 2024 to September 2025. The position may be extended depending on performance and evaluation.
The Graduate Communications Peer provides content support and outreach, professional development content, programming, and resources that empower graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in their personal and career development.
This position will work under the supervision of the UCSB Graduate Division Marketing & Communications Director and Assistant Director of Professional Development. Duties for this role include:
- Updating website content on GradPost, Grad Slam, and Beyond Academia Drupal CMS, as well as updating listings on our campus events platform Shoreline
- Working with templates and sending approved email communications via EMMA
- Digital file organization on Google Drive, Box, and Drupal
- Maintaining content calendars on Google Calendar
- Posting approved content to social media (LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok)
- Providing GSRC prospective and current graduate student visitors assistance, support, and campus tours (with approved script)
- Content-gathering support, as needed, like collecting images, email interviews, and setting up draft formatting
- Responds to student and staff requests (by email or in person) for information, referrals to other staff and peers, and content assistance
- Event support (in-person event set-up/organization and digital content support) for Orientation, Grad Slam, Beyond Academia, and other professional development events
The successful applicant will gain valuable experience working in program outreach, event promotions, digital content development, and customer service.
PAYMENT: $23.00 per hour
FELLOWSHIP: Health insurance and partial fee support (equivalent to TA fee support)
HOURS: 10-13 hours weekly (25% appointment) during the academic year

Minimum Qualifications:
- Has completed one year of graduate study at UCSB, is in good academic standing, is within university time-to-degree standards, and meets all other standard student employment eligibility requirements
- Proficient in and/or demonstrated ability to learn on Canva, EMMA, Drupal, and other important communications-oriented platforms
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and positive work attitude
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
- Works with diverse populations and is committed to practicing and promoting inclusivity and accessibility
Preferred Qualifications:
- Customer service-oriented attitude
- Strong content writing and editing for websites and email communications
- Able to work in hectic work environments
- Able to meet multiple deadlines
- Events outreach and promotions experience
Tuition & Insurance Fee Coverage: With the appropriate eligibility and approval, the position may be combined with a GSR or TA position, as long as the combined hours do not exceed 75% appointment (or 50% appointment for international graduate students). The Graduate Division will pay partial fees and graduate student health insurance (Gaucho Health Insurance) equivalent to those provided for TAs if other student academic appointments or awards do not provide these fees.
