Marketing & Communications Intern

Description

This internship will require student(s) to:

  1. Work under the supervision and guidance of the UCSB Graduate Division Marketing & Communications Director to help create and update print and video content for the Division’s different programs and initiatives.

  2. Create and organize images and written content for program events and initiatives.

  3. Provide support to update social media channels for the Graduate Division, as well as implementing social media events coverage plan for Grad Slam and Commencement.

  4. Help monitor and gather metrics to prepare reports and analytic tables, as needed.

     

Internship Objectives

The goal of the UCSB Graduate Division Marketing & Communications Internship is to provide students with practical experience in developing promotional content and assets for diverse target audiences. This experience will enable students to develop key professional skills in web content development, design, and photography.

Additionally, the objectives are:

  1. To develop professional skills, techniques, and experience geared toward attaining employment in communications, marketing and/or public relations.

  2. To create a professional portfolio of visual assets (photos and video) and design to fulfill requirements for an entry-level position in marketing and communications.

  3. To provide the opportunity for student(s) to experience the process and implementation of communications and marketing strategies for higher education audiences.

  4. To enable the development of competences in various areas of the creative marketing process.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in good academic standing at UC Santa Barbara, and able to commit to 10-12 hours a week (schedule to be determined based on student academic schedule and requirements) for a one-year internship

  • Design and photography skills are a plus

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and Word

  • Ability to navigate and understand purpose and functions of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media platforms

  • Ability to lift and carry camera equipment to assist at photo and video shoots

     

Desirable Requirements

  • Strong customer service skills (professional experience in sales, retail, and/or hospitality are a plus, but not required)

  • Promotional writing skills/experience (ability to write engaging copy for flyers, emails, and social media posts)

  • Video, design and photography skills are a PLUS, but not required.

  • Able to work in high-pressure events coverage situations

  • Ability to work in team-oriented projects
