Graduate Student Researcher (50% appointment)

The position entails maintaining an ongoing social media presence for CITS, and developing a research compendium of CITS faculty affiliates’ scholarship that focuses on information technology and its impact on society, as well as reporting CITS events and affiliates' activities/accomplishments. The GSR will be expected to interview UCSB faculty about their work, connect their research to the CITS mission, and translate technical descriptions into abstracts that are suitable for social media platforms and non-expert audiences. The GSR will also work with center leadership on writing research white papers, briefs, and press releases that are both entertaining and educational for sophisticated general consumption. Finally, the GSR will be expected to attend research colloquia and disseminate research findings across multiple formats including podcasts, twitter, blogs, web page and Facebook posts.

The ideal candidate is working on a Ph.D. and has demonstrable experience in strategic social media (major platforms) and website management, journalistic or PR writing, and short video production. CITS involves researchers from across campus interested in information technology and its social implications. Successful hire will work closely with faculty, graduate students, visitors, and stakeholders.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

PhD. Graduate student at UCSB who is interested in the development, application, and/or effect of information technology on society.

Experience in strategic social media (major platforms)

Ability to write for multiple audiences

Interest in supporting the work of an interdisciplinary research Center.

Detail oriented, reliable and accurate in all public and internal communications.

Ability to work as part of a close-knit team.

Dynamic interpersonal skills.

Contribute to a positive work environment through cooperative and professional interactions with colleagues and donors.
