General Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Lab Manager and Lab Coordinators, the undergraduate lab assistant is responsible for assisting staff and personnel in the preparation and operation of the Introductory to Biology laboratory courses. *This is not an undergraduate research position*
 
 
Job Functions and Duties:
Assists staff in weekly set-up / break-down of lab exercises, and in the upkeep and maintenance of prep space. This includes assisting staff in the preparation of materials that are required for use in the Introductory to Biology laboratory courses. After adequate time and training, lab assistant may be asked to help in the preparation of standard reagents and solutions, media, and specimens.
 
Various duties as assigned by staff including clean-up and set-up of weekly labs, dishes, running errands, retrieving/processing orders, conducting inventory checks, and copying/sorting files.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an Introduction to Biology series at UCSB or other accredited institution is mandatory. Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and demonstrates communication and problem solving skills. Ability to take direction in both verbal and written forms of instruction.
 
Hours
Must be available to work for at least two, three hour blocks Monday- Friday 7am-6pm. Desired work times will vary each quarter with a possibility of weekend work.
 
Desired Qualifications:
Research/Lab Experience including preparation of buffers, standard reagents, experimental design etc.
