AS Program Board Event Safety Assistant

Event Assistants work with Program Board Coordinators in the production of ASPB events including concerts, movies, lectures and special events. Event Assistants working as event staff perform ushering and crowd management duties including taking tickets, guarding doors, and managing crowd flow. Event Assistants protect and guard University property, maintain order among the public, control entry to restricted areas, inspect areas to prevent accidents and other hazards, direct visitors and answer questions.

This position requires good communication and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to lift and move heavy objects. Event Assistants must be able to work on multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and must be even-tempered and able to remain calm under sometimes stressful conditions.

Event Staff responsibilities:

Prevent people from entering event facilities without purchasing tickets or from entering restricted areas without proper authorization.

Event staff can act as ticket takers or may check ID cards at entrances.

Monitor lines at entryways, the ticket office, or at events.

Prevent entry of prohibited or illegal items into events.

Protect equipment, vehicles and other property from vandalism, theft, or abuse by unauthorized personnel.

Set-up security stanchions, barricades, and other security/crowd management equipment.

 

Identify potential disturbances or people who require medical attention and report the information to Community Services Officers or Campus Police.

 

Act as information resource for event attendees.

Direct crowds in emergency evacuation and assist building staff in the event of emergency.
